This is the new solid state preamplifier I built. It features opamp
based gain stages, digital volume control (using DS1666 chips), input
selection with relays, remote control, and an MM/MC phono stage.
This is a photo shot when the pre was still in the assembling phase.
Later, I decided to suspend the transformers with elastics, to
eliminate vibrations induced by those magnetic devices. You can see a
photo of the particular here:
This isn't the best implementation of infra-sonic suspension, elastics
are too short and there is too much damping from the attached wires (in
theory the system should resonate with zero damping on a single,
precise, sub-sonic frequency, like 1Hz or so), but it worked for me,
with a reduction of about 10dB in background noise, especially 100Hz
component.
