The My_Ref
project started somewhere around 2005, on the diyaudio.com
forum, by Mauro Penasa. It is a solid state amplifier, with LM3886 by
National as main power devices. But it's not a Gain-clone, or similar:
it's a very modern and clever amplifier with similar ideas to Nelson
Pass "Stasis" concept, and Quad "Current Dumping", but using integrated
components. The first My_ref in its various declinations (A, B or C
version) had a great success between forumers, allowing people to build
exceptional quality amplifiers with more power than the usual vacuum
tube single ended, low price and great sound. The original My_ref is
mostly build out of through hole mounting parts and it's an open source
project, it means that the schematics and the printed circuit board
layout is freely downloadable from the AudioFaiDaTe
site for no-profit hobbyst purposes.
The next step in the process is the My_Ref Evolution, a step forward in
performance, with most critical parts in surface mounting technology,
and the possibility to use 2 LM3886 in parallel per channel, to
properly drive low impedance loads. It retains the same advantages of
the previous My_Ref project, the low price, compact dimensions and the
exceptional sound. This however is not open source: printed circuit
boards are available from Mauro himself for a small charge, and they
come with all surface mounted components pre-soldered, for easy
assemby.
I decided to build this last one, well actually two of them, one for a
friend of mine.

This is mine, black and gold, with white LED in front...

...and this is my friend's one, with different styling: silver, with
blue LED.
So... what about the sound?
It has no sound. This should suffice.
